Leanne's Progression Story
What role do you currently do at Arden?
I’m a Deputy Head of School for Psychology, and I support with strategic oversight and enhancement of our School. This involves leading the team in improving existing programmes, developing new programmes, and identifying areas in need of innovation to ensure student success. I am lead for teaching and learning within the School, and line manage senior lecturers and programme leads.
What role did you originally start out in?
I started working for Arden as a part-time distance learning lecturer in October 2020, and moved to full time in January 2021. Since then, I have made the most of developmental opportunities available to me, and because of this progressed to a senior lecturer (and student employability lead for Psychology), then to principal lecturer, and now Deputy Head of School.
When did you progress into your current role and what is your favourite part of the job you do now?
I started as DHoS early in 2023. The favourite part of my role is seeing and being part of the team’s successes and growth, and how this translates to student success. I also enjoy having more opportunity for cross-institutional working and influencing positive change at a bigger scale.
How has Arden University supported your career development and growth, and what resources or opportunities did you find particularly beneficial along the way?
Arden’s flexible working and celebration of autonomy has allowed me to thrive and work at my best. I’ve had some fantastic support and leadership both within and outside the Faculty of Social Sciences. I’ve made use of so many excellent APD workshops, and writing retreats, and the PGCert in digital education allowed me to enhance my practice.
What would you say to Arden colleagues who are looking to advance their careers within Arden?
Seek out opportunities to get involved in things, innovate, and make the most of the in-house development opportunities that are here for us (e.g. mentoring scheme, fellowship support, workshops).
Lastly, what would you say to someone considering Arden as their next career move?
If you’re looking for a fast-paced environment full of challenge and opportunity to have impact, then Arden is an amazing place for growth!
