This role operates primarily on a remote working arrangement that will require little to no travel into one of our campuses below. Our working model arrangements are a non-contractual benefit so please note that an Arden work location is added to our employment contracts.

About our Department:

The Department of Investigation, Security & Defence sits within Arden University’s School of Criminology, Criminal Justice & Law. The department delivers undergraduate provision across investigation and policing and is expanding its portfolio into areas including counter terrorism, intelligence, security and defence. This is an exciting time to join the team as we continue to develop and enhance our programmes and grow our subject offering

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a Lecturer in Policing and Defence to deliver high-quality teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will design engaging learning materials, deliver teaching in a distance-learning environment and support students to develop practical skills, subject knowledge and critical thinking.

You will also contribute to assessment, student support, dissertation and project supervision, quality assurance and the ongoing development and enhancement of our programmes. As the department continues to expand its provision across counter terrorism, intelligence, security and defence, you will have the opportunity to contribute to new course proposals and curriculum development.

About You:

We are looking for an engaging and knowledgeable academic with professional experience in policing, intelligence, defence or the Armed Forces, who can bring their specialist expertise to our distance-learning students. You should be confident designing and delivering teaching, supporting assessment and contributing to curriculum development, while encouraging critical thinking, debate and practical application.

Essential requirements:

• A Master’s Degree in a relevant subject.

• Excellent breadth or depth of specialist knowledge within your discipline.

• Practical experience of applying effective teaching skills and techniques.

• Professional experience within policing, intelligence, defence or the Armed Forces.

• Evidence of continuing professional development to develop your knowledge and teaching capability.

• Strong communication and analytical skills.

• The ability to contribute to course or teaching method improvement.

• Strong digital literacy and confidence using digital teaching and learning methods.

Desirable requirements:

• A recognised Higher Education teaching qualification.

• Advance HE Fellowship at FHEA/SFHEA level.

• Experience contributing to the development of new courses or programmes.

• Experience supervising undergraduate or postgraduate dissertations, projects, fieldwork or placements.

• Experience working with professional bodies or academic networks.

• A commitment to continuing professional development and sharing best practice.
