This role operates primarily on a remote working arrangement that will require occasional travel, (once a week, although this may fluctuate in line with business need) normally to your the closest Campus to your home. Our working model arrangements are a non-contractual benefit so please note that an Arden work location is added to our employment contracts.
Our Campuses are in Birmingham, Leeds, London (Ealing, Holborn and Stratford), Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham. Head Office is in Coventry.

Our Department of Accounting and Finance, part of the School of Management and Executive Education, is committed to providing high-quality, applied education. We equip our students with an in-depth understanding of modern accounting and finance, including the role and scope of technology in the field in areas such as Fintech and blockchain, as well as gain the skills to make sound investment decisions. Throughout the course, we also give our students the opportunity to put their learning into practice, helping them gain real-world skills they can use in their future careers.
About the Opportunity:
As the Head of Department for Accounting and Finance, you will be a collaborative, inspiring and student-centred leader who is accountable for achieving outstanding quality features within Student Experience and Student Outcomes. Responsibilities will include:
Embedding outstanding teaching, feedback, and assessment practices to support students’ learning, progression, and attainment.
Inspiring and engaging course content (including physical and virtual learning resources) and delivery that stretches learners to develop knowledge to their fullest potential.
Delivering outstanding departmental rates of continuation and completion for learners as well as setting programme curriculums that provide learners with the right skills, knowledge, and behaviour to progress into managerial or professional employment, or further study.
Line manage Senior Lecturers and potentially other members of the academic team.
Recruitment of outstanding academic staff in their department and potentially undertake teaching and related duties on programmes relevant to their area of expertise, where possible.
Represent the University and its values, promoting Arden University and their programmes at external and internal events and collaborate effectively with other academic colleagues and key stakeholders.
About You:
We are looking for a student‑centred academic leader with a strong record of driving quality, enhancing student outcomes, and developing high‑performing academic teams. Known for collaborative leadership, rigorous academic standards, and a commitment to inspiring, inclusive learning experiences, you will need to meet the following criteria:
Essential requirements:
Extensive experience of managing relationships with PSRBs, including ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CFA and IFA
Experience of building and managing relationships with industry partners, including but not limited to Financial Services, Banking and Commercial Organisations
Experience of leading a portfolio of Accounting and Finance programmes at UG and PG levels.
Masters’ level qualification relevant to the School.
Recognised HE teaching qualification and/or Fellowship (e.g.: PG Cert HE, SFHEA, PFHEA QTLS/QTS Secondary).
Relevant industry experience within the business world, including business development.
Demonstrated ability to harness and develop the talents of the team to create an innovative and exciting environment for teaching, learning, research, and industry-focused activities.
Demonstrated leadership skills, effective people management, motivation and team building skills.
A successful track record of leading academic programmes at different levels/modes of study, ensuring relevant programmes deliver high levels of Student Experience and Student Outcomes (TEF metrics), as well as Student Satisfaction (internal and external surveys)
Desirable requirements:
A PhD or other Level 7 qualification
Management training/qualification demonstrating the ability to lead others.
