The Computing Department at Arden University is committed to providing students with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience necessary to develop in the fast-growing and ever-evolving tech industry.
Through a blended and distance learning, we prepare students for diverse careers, ranging from software development and cybersecurity to data analysis and IT consultancy. About the role:
As a Lecturer on our distance learning team, you'll be part of a collaborative group of academics based across our UK campuses, working together to deliver an exceptional student experience. Aligned with our vision of being a digital-first university that prioritises flexibility in pace, location, and delivery, our distance learning students engage with faculty through various online platforms.
Main duties and responsibilities for all grades:
- Teaching and training activities for our distance learning students.
- Module leadership, ensuring levels of consistency and quality and developing our learning materials and schemes of work.
- Assessment marking and development, developing authentic assessments ensuring appropriate marking guidance is provided and maintaining levels of quality in terms of feedback and evaluation processes.
- Lead on or assist with the development of new programmes and the review and refresh of our existing programmes, ensuring alignment with employer requirements and the employability needs of our students.
- Working with colleagues to advise and support students.
- Innovate in terms of teaching practice, support, and assessment.
About You:
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have a Master’s Degree or equivalent professional qualification in subject relevant to teaching or research area
- Have demonstrable experience in delivering excellent and engaging teaching across a range of theory-based and practical modules and are comfortable with languages and platforms such as Java, MySQL, PHP, AWS/Azure, Python and SPSS across levels 4 to 7.
- Can demonstrate that they have gained practical experience in an industry context
- Are confident and experienced in using a variety of teaching techniques in online contexts
Our undergraduate modules cover a range of topics including Systems Analysis and Design, Web Authoring, Programming, Databases, Ethics, Web Application Development and Data Mining and we are looking for academics who can teach across the broad range of modules. We are also launching new postgraduate programmes and would welcome applicants with experience of teaching modules in the areas of Data Science and Cyber Security.
